AGRIRESORT

Historical Masseria in Otranto

The Masseria San Cosimo Agriresort, built in 1861, is an ancient rural structure that once housed a real agricultural company. Its name derives from the Latin massa, which means "set of funds", to underline its agricultural vocation.

Famous for its tobacco plantations, fruit trees and herds of grazing and milking animals, the farm was divided into two main areas: one intended for the Massaris, engaged in processing the crops (tobacco, fruit and vegetables), and the other used as stables for livestock.

Over time, the structure has been restored and transformed into a welcoming Bed & Breakfast, while retaining the agricultural soul that has always distinguished it.

recovery of tradition

Le Aie Antiche

Today many farmyards are abandoned, but some, like that of Masseria San Cosimo, have been recovered and come back to life through ancient traditions. Here the Senatore Cappelli wheat is dried and cleaned naturally in the sun and wind, continuing a practice that gives quality and authenticity to the derived products. With a surface area of 150 square metres, the Aia della Masseria also represented an important crossroads for local farmers and workers, a symbol of sacrifice and love for the land.
